Optimize Your Closet with Neiman Marcus: Part Two
As we round the corner into 2021, what a perfect time to take stock of our wardrobe - our closet - and optimize it with the goal of keeping key pieces that you know you will wear, organizing them so that outfits are clearly identifiable, pruning out pieces that are not serving you well, and finding a few select pieces to complete your collection.
I am honored to be partnering with Neiman Marcus to bring you this four part series. As a worldwide leader and pioneer in luxury fashion and lifestyle goods, Neiman Marcus is not only the place to find the right pieces for your look but it is also a go to destination for their exceptional tailoring and customer service.
Part One was a blast - enjoy Part Two - and stay tuned for parts three and four in the coming weeks!
Part Two: TLC For Your Wardrobe
What to do with pieces you have that might be keepers but need a little TLC? If you LOVE the pieces (see Part One for how to decide), they are worth further investing in to make you excited to wear them (again).
I spent some time with Neiman Marcus’ outstanding Alterations Department and Marisa Martorano, Brand Experience Lead at Neiman Marcus Boston and we offer you these suggestions for giving your loved items a little tender loving care:
Alter any pieces that are not exactly right.
Found something you love but that doesn’t fit exactly right? Alter it! Most people need some alterations on pants, suit jackets, and dresses - so don’t be shy! You want to get the wear out of your pieces.
De-pill your sweaters.
I love a luscious sweater - especially in the New England fall and winter.
While there are ways to prevent pilling (thank you Martha), it’s completely normal for sweaters to pill.
At the end of the winter season, before you put all your knits away, take them to a tailor to depill or, if you’re brave, purchase a tool to do it yourself.
Invest in proper storage.
You spent the money on the item, so give it a safe home that will protect it while you’re not wearing it!
Pieces that tend to need special storage include furs, leather (like these - on my wishlist), silks and knits.
Pay attention to cleaning instructions on the tag!
Not gonna lie - it is SUCH a pain to dry clean or handwash something. But if you’ve invested in the item, why shorten its lifespan unnecessarily?
Read the instructions on the label and follow them. For handwashing at home, I love The Laundress products or good ol’ Woolite.
