How To Style Your Coats
What Are We Wearing?
Styling your winter coats and outerwear are no small feat. Coats have become fashion statements in our wardrobes and achieve very diverse looks. They serve different purposes and set the tone for your entire look when styled correctly. Here are three genres of coats that stand out and how to wear them.
Puffer Coats:
Keep it extra chic in the cold with a cropped puffer. Style it with high-waisted jeans to compensate for the length and a cute beanie for the perfect apres ski look. Or, add a pop of color to your cold-weather collection. I love this bright yet sporty clementine puffer with black pants or leggings, cashmere socks, and a water-resistant boot.
Statement Coats:
A coat that makes a strong statement is an important piece to have in your closet. You’ll get lots of mileage out of a style like this Smythe Birkin Coat for business meetings, formal engagements, or if you simply want to elevate a denim look. As a formal option, I suggest wearing it over a silk maxi or fitted wool dress and a fabulous pair of boots.
Trench Coats:
Opt for a chic trench for rainy days or when there’s mild precipitation and the temperatures are bearable. The traditional trench coat never goes out of style, so I recommend investing in this piece. Or, opt for an updated design on this classic with pleats or a billowing silhouette. Drape it over a fitted dress or wide-leg denim, scarf, and a thick leather belt for an elegant take.
