5 Closet Staples and How To Style Them
What Are We Wearing?
There are a few staples I always make sure my clients have in their closets. You can update these pieces throughout the years or keep them as investment pieces to wear on repeat, but here are my 5 non-negotiable must-have staples for your closet.
A well-made, beautifully tailored wool coat will keep you warm while looking elegant. This coat can be worn with every outfit you can imagine, from a chic casual drop-off look with sweats and a beanie over your workwear to any evening affair over a dress or jumpsuit. Bold colors are fun as a statement, but I suggest starting with a neutral coat that will complement any wardrobe.
Blazers are one of my favorite pieces to wear and shop for. Veronica Beard, Derek Lam, and Smythe are a few of my favorite brands to wear because the fit and quality are unmatched. These blazers hug the body and accentuate your shape while feeling wearable, comfortable, and not stiff. Style your best blazers over dresses, with denim, and as an add-on to any trouser look, such as cargo or wide-leg chino pants.
The easiest, most versatile, and elegant choice for a go-to look is a classic black dress. There are many options to go by, so I suggest investing in a high-quality dress that fits your body perfectly in a classic silhouette that won’t go out of style. Crepe, fine knits, silk, cotton twill, and wool are good fabrications for looking for the right dress for your wardrobe.
A chic fashion sneaker can tone down any look while looking fun, sporty, and casual. From a skirt with a blouse to a pair of trousers with your favorite tank to a playful midi dress, a stylish pair of sneakers gives the ultimate cool-girl vibe that feels effortless and keeps you extra comfy if you’ve got a day of walking or traveling.
5. A Great-Fitting Pair of Jeans
People sometimes underestimate the value of the perfect pair of jeans. The numerous wear you get out of them, the durability, and the flattering fit all make for a wise investment in an ideal fitting pair of denim. Choose your favorite cut like wide leg, skinny, boot cut, ankle crop, or taper - choose whatever style makes you feel most comfortable and go for light to medium wash for the utmost versatility.
