How To Elevate A Shirt Dress

What Are We Wearing?

The shirtdress has been around for years, but it keeps getting better. This versatile catch-all piece suits all types of occasions, from in the office to daytime and weekend plans. We even saw it on the red carpet of the recent Met Gala, with a version from none other than Tommy Hilfiger on the gorgeous Madelyn Cline! Here are a few ways I’m styling the modern shirt dress for a fresh, elevated take.

Look 1
I love the menswear vibe this chambray blue shirt dress gives off with the French cuff and high-low hem detail. It’s like a men’s dress shirt but tailored to a woman’s shape. Style this with a peak-lapel blazer, like my favorite Spring blazer by Cinq a Sept. Finish with a light-colored pump, like white or beige, or opt for a strappy heeled sandal to finish the look.

Look 2
This bright orange a-line midi-style shirtdress is a great option for any daytime parties you have planned. I love the poplin style of this dress and the smocked waist, which accentuates your shape and gives it an elegant shape with the fuller skirt. Pair this down with an oversized denim jacket for a chic weekend or travel look, or take it up a notch with a blazer and your favorite Summer heels.

Look 3
Stripes are officially in season. The nautical feel is always popular during the warmer months, and I am loving this Kelly green version from Staud. This is a shorter version of a shirtdress, which feels more casual than the other versions mentioned but is still very wearable. Top with a denim jacket or wrap cardigan and your favorite flats for a cozy daytime look, or elevate it with a white blazer and a nude or subtle-toned heel.
