Optimize Your Closet with Neiman Marcus: Part Four

As we round the corner into 2021, what a perfect time to take stock of our wardrobe - our closet - and optimize it with the goal of keeping key pieces that you know you will wear, organizing them so that outfits are clearly identifiable, pruning out pieces that are not serving you well, and finding a few select pieces to complete your collection.

I am honored to be partnering with Neiman Marcus to bring you this four part series. As a worldwide leader and pioneer in luxury fashion and lifestyle goods, Neiman Marcus is not only the place to find the right pieces for your look but it is also a go to destination for their exceptional tailoring and customer service.

Part Four: Filling the Gaps

Now that you’ve made space in your closet, it’s time to fill it with gorgeous new things!

I spent some time with Marisa Martorano, Brand Experience Lead at Neiman Marcus Boston and we offer you these suggestions for key pieces you should have in your freshly redone closet:

  1. A dress that you can dress up or down, wear with sneakers or heels, a denim or leather jacket. These Ulla Johnson dresses are all fabulous.

  2. A jumpsuit - easy to wear, add a fun top over it, wear casual or dressy - so many fun options here.

  3. Matching sets are always a great item to have in your closet. They are perfect for a zoom call because you look put together and still cozy on the bottom. You can mix and match top and bottom with other separates. I love this one from The Upside and the sleeves on this top from Alice + Olivia.

  4. Denim - you only need about 3-4 pairs of jeans in your closet. You should have a white pair - perfect for Spring and Summer, a light wash pair (you can wear light wash all year round), a dark wash pair - great for an evening out, and a wide leg.

  5. Blazer - opt for a light color leather blazer or a Veronica Beard blazer like this and change the dickie insert out which will make one blazer have several different looks.

  6. Bags - hands-free is key especially during the pandemic. Make sure you have a cross-body or a belt bag - both great for walking your dog, running, or grocery shopping. Great selections here and here.

  7. Shoes - I suggest a combat boot, sneakers, a great over-the-knee boot (Stuart Weitzman’s classic here), and a stylish rain boot (Zara has a lot of great rain boots).
